Finding time to exercise with small kids
Finding time to exercise when you have kids is challenging. (If you don’t have kids, replace that word with career, pet, family, etc. These tips can still apply.) It can feel impossible, especially in those early years when your kids aren’t self-sufficient yet. But it can be done, with a little planning and strategy.
5 healthy New Year’s resolutions that aren’t tied to weight loss
New Year, new me, right? We’ve all been there at some point, vowing to lose X-number of pounds in the new year. If weight loss is a goal of yours, go for it. But for most of my life, I’ve had an unhealthy obsession with the number on the scale. It took me a long time to realize that weight isn’t the only, or most important, indicator of health. You really can’t know anything about a person’s health just by the size of their body.
5 reasons why you should try working out in the morning
If you’re not a morning person, the thought of working out before the sun rises probably sounds like torture. I get it. Before I had kids, I always worked out late at night. I never understood those people who went to a 5:45am spin class willingly. But once I became a mom, I had to make some changes in order to continue prioritizing my health.
3 ways to stay efficient with your workouts
Before having kids, I would spend an average of 2 hours per gym session. I’d go lift weights for an hour, then do Zumba, then sit in the sauna. By the time you’d add in my commute to and from the gym, it could be upwards of 3 hours. This just wasn’t sustainable after becoming a mom.
5 tips for staying on track during the holidays
Don’t let the next 2 months stop your progress! I’m not a “no days off” type of fitness instructor, so I’ll never tell you to restrict food or double up on workouts. But I will say you can absolutely stay active during the holiday season, while still enjoying the festivities.
5 tips for getting back on track after a vacation
I just returned from an awesome 7-day vacation at an all-inclusive resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica. It was so great to get away and spend quality time with my husband and friends, while also getting some much-needed R&R!
Get out of your comfort zone
When I’m not instantly good at something, I’m quick to quit. Maybe it’s the Type-A perfectionist first-child in me, but also I just don’t like looking lost and confused. It’s embarrassing.
5 things that won’t help you reach your goals
Quick fixes ain’t it, mama. All they will do is quickly steal your joy and make your fitness journey miserable and unsustainable. I know it can be easy to resort to these 5 things, but I promise you don’t need them.
My journey to today
It’s been quite a journey to get where I am today, and I’m constantly evolving. I wanted to share my story so you know the struggles you face with your health are mine too. Growing up, I was very active. I played sports year-round and was never really concerned about my body.
“Bouncing back” after pregnancy
Have you ever felt the pressure to “bounce back” after pregnancy? Me too. Our bodies go through so much trauma in those 9 months, so why do we expect them to go “back to normal” after only 6 weeks? If you’re adjusting to your new postpartum body, I feel you. I’ve been there twice.
Body image and fitness (podcast)
I was on a podcast! It was so great to join my friend Valerie Moses on her podcast, Wellness & Wanderlust. In episode 45 titled “How to Improve Body Image with Alayna Curry,” I share about my fitness journey and how women and young moms can make time for their health, while still loving and appreciating their bodies.
My top 3 fitness FAQs
As a fitness instructor, I hear a lot of questions but these are the top 3 I hear most often. Maybe you’ve wondered these before but were too shy to reach out and ask. Message me any time!
My 5 home workout must-haves
You need a garage full of expensive gym equipment to do a successful home workout, right? WRONG. It’s actually pretty simple to create a home workout space that will meet your needs.
My 30s glow-up
Your 30s are better than your 20s. There, I said it! So far I’m really enjoying my 30s. Mainly because I finally know who I am and I’m fully embracing it!
Why you need strength training
Who here loves cardio? I love it too, but 10 years ago that’s all I used to do. Sure, it was great for my heart health and losing weight initially. But eventually I hit a plateau and wasn’t seeing the changes in my body that I wanted.
Let’s skip the gym and do happy hour
It can be easy to become obsessed with working out every day. You may feel guilty about missing a day, thinking that it will kill your progress. But that’s just not true. Your body needs rest for muscle repair and to prevent fatigue and injury.
Reminder: social media isn’t reality
This is a friendly reminder that social media isn’t reality. We’ve all been there. Looking at another woman’s Instagram feed, wondering “why can’t I look like her?” But what do we really know about her?
